For your child, joining a youth movement can be a great way to meet new friends, get acclimated, acquire meaningful values and spend quality time doing experiential activities.
Youth movements operate in all authorities and communities and offer a variety of activities tailored to different populations and areas of interest. The counselors, young people full of commitment and positive energy, serve as personal examples and role models and accompany the participants throughout the activities. In most movements, you can join starting in third grade, although the exact joining age varies from movement to movement.
How do you join? In many cases, representatives of the movements come to schools and present the activity to students. You can also locate the nearest branch through the local authority website or an internet search, contact the branch coordinator and ask that your child come to try it out.
Please note The Ministry of Aliyah and Integration website contains contact information for Olim Coordinators in youth movements:
Cost of activity The cost varies from movement to movement: There are movements in which the activity includes a fee, both for membership fees and for activities such as trips, while certain movements charge a nominal fee or sometimes even no fee. Many movements work to make the activity accessible and try to offer financial assistance as needed. It is recommended to check the costs of the activity in the specific movement in advance.
Added Value Beyond the ongoing activities for children, youth movements engage in areas such as education for sustainability and the environment, strengthening ties with Jewish youth throughout the country and around the world, and sometimes the participants participate in humanitarian activities when necessary.
