Shivat Zion, founded in February 2022 by Shraga Evers, is the only NGO officially recognized by the Jewish Agency that focuses specifically on assisting Jews from Europe and Latin America in making aliyah. Based in Jerusalem, the organization offers culturally informed, hands-on support before, during, and after the aliyah process.

Originally from Amsterdam, Evers identified a critical gap in tailored support for European Jews navigating aliyah — a need that became especially urgent during the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, Shivat Zion works alongside institutions like the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration and the Jewish Agency, serving communities across the UK, Scandinavia, Switzerland, parts of the former Soviet Union, and more.

The organization’s team of nine — all olim themselves — offers guidance not only on logistics but also on cultural adaptation. As Evers notes, understanding the differences between British and Israeli systems, especially around communication and bureaucracy, is key to successful integration.

Rather than using fear-based messaging, Evers emphasizes a values-driven approach: “We believe in aliyah on sunny days and rainy days.” Shivat Zion regularly hosts consultation events in cities like London, Manchester, Antwerp, and Amsterdam — engaging young adults, families, and retirees alike.

Evers’ core advice for potential olim: be informed, stay flexible, and approach the process as an adventure. “There’s no other country that sends agents to bring people home — Israel does.”
