Ideas for activities with children in the protected space
During this period, when the children are at home and we must all enter the protected space several times a day and at night, many children experience anxiety and fear – especially when they encounter concepts they are not familiar with, such as “missiles” and “drones.” Here are some ideas that will help pass the time in the protected space in a pleasant and calm way, and which will help the children focus on other things.
10-minute activities for the protected space:
- ABC game: Everyone playing the game contributes a word according to the ABC. For example, A – alert, B – boom and so on. You can use the Pikud HaOref dictionary for children:
English
Hebrew - Mamadvision: Family song competition in the protected space.
- Proverbs and meanings: Each family member shares a proverb they choose and its meaning.
- Decoration of the protected space: paintings, pictures, lights – everything to make it more pleasant.
- The mamad expert: At each entrance to the protected space, someone else lectures for 5 minutes on a topic of their choice – history, cooking, animals – anything! Because even in an emergency, you can learn something new.
- Friendly competitions between participants, play country-city (“eretz-ir”), perform pantomime or do charades.
- Dancing with the mamad stars: Each time, someone else from the family creates some simple dance steps and everyone copies their steps. Who will be the next dancing star?
Tip: Get the children involved in the planning – it gives them a sense of control and helps calm them down!
With a little creativity, complicated moments can be calmer. Have a safe stay in the protected space
