Experiencing poor internet and cellular reception in your safe room (mamad) or shelter?
It’s not random. The same building materials that protect us physically also block wireless signals. So what can you do? Here are some recommendations from the Ministry of Communications:

Improving Wi-Fi reception in the shelter
1 — No cost: Move the router to a central location in the home, as close as possible to the shelter entrance or ventilation shaft.

2 — With a small investment, self-installation:

  • Signal Extender — a small device that plugs into a power outlet and extends the Wi-Fi range. Place it near the shelter entrance.
  • Powerline Adapters — connect one adapter near the router and a second one inside the shelter. The internet travels through the existing electrical wiring in the home.
  • MoCA Adapters — if there is a TV cable in the shelter, it can be converted into a fast internet connection.

3 — Using a professional technician: Running a direct network cable from the router into the shelter and connecting it to an internal Wi-Fi access point — a stable and reliable solution.

Improving cellular reception
1 — No cost:

  • Wi-Fi Calling — allows you to make and receive calls over Wi-Fi, even without cellular reception. Contact your mobile carrier to check and activate.

2 — Professional solution, through your mobile carrier:

  • Cellular booster — external antenna + amplifier + internal antenna inside the shelter.
  • Femtocell — a device that connects to the router and functions as a tiny base station inside the home.
