Are you caught between running to the shelter, working from home, and kids wandering around with nothing to do? You’re not alone!

Here are some practical ideas to help maintain routine and a sense of stability during this challenging period:

Set at least three anchors to each day: for example, study time, a short outing, and a family meal — and don’t give them up.

Morning routine: Start the day with music and a proper breakfast — bread, fruit, and more. A proper breakfast reduces the “I’m hungry” complaints every half hour.

Study time: When you’re with the kids — be truly present with them. Trying to simultaneously work from home and support schoolwork can sometimes create frustration for both sides. It’s recommended to plan ahead with dedicated work times and dedicated times for the children, according to the nature of your work and the ages of your children.

Toy swap with neighbors: Have the kids gone through every game at home? You can organize a swap of games and books with neighbors. It’s an opportunity for connection, creating interest, and something new — at no extra cost.

Montessori at home: We learn best by doing — cooking can become a science lesson: measuring, counting, mixing, and understanding chemical processes. Divide the tasks and have the kids participate.

Go outside: Even playing ball downstairs helps to let loose and release energy. Important: stay close to a protected space.

Screens at the right dose: They can be a useful tool, but not the default solution. Set screen time in advance — for example, watching a movie at 4:00 PM, but only after homework is done and the living room is tidy. 😉

Feeling overwhelmed? Stop, breathe, and remember — mistakes can be corrected. An honest conversation with the kids and asking for forgiveness teaches them more about coping, responsibility, and family closeness than any lesson.

A moment of prayer or contemplation: Include a short prayer /meditation / contemplation with the children for the soldiers — that they be blessed and succeed in their mission and that they all return home safely.

May we soon hear good news, and enjoy the return of children to school safely and happily.
