AliyahGPT Public Transportation Lanes – Permitted or Prohibited?
Driving in public transport lanes
In Israel, public transportation lanes (bus lanes) are marked with a yellow line and include arrows and large diamonds. Driving a private vehicle in this lane without a valid permit can result in a fine of 500 NIS or more, along with penalty points.
Did you know?
In certain cases — during evening hours, weekends, and holidays — restrictions on using bus lanes are lifted, and private vehicles can also drive in them, in compliance with local signage.
High-occupancy vehicle lanes (plus lanes)
Some bus lanes are adapted for private cars as well, provided they carry a number of passengers beyond the driver. These lanes are marked with signage indicating 2+ or 3+ indicating to the minimum number of passengers required (including the driver).
Application for public transportation lane permit
In special cases, it’s possible to submit an application for a public transportation lane driving permit and receive an exemption from complying with Traffic Sign 501.
Who can apply?
Important note:
Holders of disability stickers with a wheelchair symbol are exempt from submitting an application and can use bus lanes — as long as the sticker holder is physically present in the vehicle.
How to submit the application?
Important things to know:
Received a ticket for driving in a public transport lane?
In certain cases, it’s possible to submit a request to cancel a traffic ticket for driving in a bus lane — as long as the fine hasn’t been paid and the request is submitted within 30 days, with relevant reasons and documents attached.
Drive carefully and in compliance with the law!
