Haven’t received your municipal tax (arnona) discount yet?

As immigrants (olim) you’re entitled to a discount!
Final deadline for submitting a request for a discount on arnona for 2025 is until August 31, 2025.

Arnona – the municipal tax payment

Arnona is a tax that residents must pay to the local authority for services such as cleaning, maintenance and welfare.
The payment can be made once a year, on January 1st, for the entire year, with payment due until January 31st. The local authority sends a payment slip by mail. Generally, the tax can also be paid in installments.
Each local authority offers different payment methods, such as by credit card, standing order, or telephone.

Discount for olim

New immigrants may be eligible for a discount of up to 90% of the municipal tax for 100 square meters of their apartment.
The discount is given for 12 months out of the first 24 months following receipt of immigrant (oleh) status.
An oleh who is dependent on others’ assistance and entitled to a nursing allowance or a special allowance for severely disabled olim may be eligible for a discount of up to 80% on the entire area (square meterage) of the apartment.

Please note! Receiving the discount and its amount depends on the local authority’s decision.
The discount is also given to a citizen oleh, but not to a returning resident and returning minor.

At the end of the discount period for olim you may be eligible to receive a discount due to other circumstances (low income, senior citizens, military service, and more).

How do you get the discount?
The discount is not given automatically! You must submit a request via an online form found on your local authority’s website.

You must attach:

Copy of ID card and immigrant certificate (teudat oleh)
Those who lived in another city/regional authority: confirmation that they did not receive a discount as an immigrant
If necessary: confirmation from National Insurance (Bituach Leumi) about your receipt of a pension

As of September 1, 2025, new property owners may submit a discount request until December 31, 2025.
You may receive a retroactive discount.

Important for apartment renters!

Arnona payment is generally imposed on the renter. In order for you to receive the arnona discount you’re entitled to, the arnona account must be in your name. Thus, make sure the account is in your name and not in the landlord’s name. If it is not in your name, before requesting the discount, fill out a “property holder replacement” form on your local authority’s website.
