As a result of a reform in the electricity market in addition to the Israel Electric Company (IEC), multiple alternative electricity suppliers now provide services.

Previously, only customers with “smart” electricity meters could switch to these new suppliers. However, as of summer 2024, all customers, regardless of whether they have a smart meter or not, can switch providers and benefit from substantial discounts on electricity bills.

If you currently do not have one, be advised that your options for suppliers are limited to those who offer fixed plans only.

Please note that by the end of 2028, all Israeli homes will be required to have smart electricity meters installed.

Regardless of which company you use, power outages etc. are still directly dealt with by the Israel Electric Company.

Smart electricity meters, which are digital, provide detailed, real-time information on electricity consumption based on the time of day. This enables suppliers to offer tailored discount plans, with potential savings of up to 20% during specific hours. Additional benefits include:

  • Flexible Discounts: Discounts range from 7% (fixed) to 20% (time-specific).
  • Plan Customization: Offers can be tailored to your daily electricity usage patterns.
  • Faster Switching: Customers with smart meters experience shorter processing times when changing suppliers.

Features: Discounts from 07:00 to 17:00, Sunday to Thursday.
Best For: Those who work from home or have high daytime usage.
Savings: Up to 20% during applicable hours.
  • Night Plan:
Features: Discounts from 23:00 to 07:00, Sunday to Thursday.

Register with a Provider

  • After selecting a plan, go directly to the provider’s website to register or start the process using one of the links above. Avoid clicking “Request an offer” on intermediary sites.
  • You’ll need the address listed on your electricity bill. Tenants can switch providers but should inform or ask permission from their landlords beforehand.
  • Once registered, your provider will handle the transition process.

Complete the Switch:

  • Fill out your details, including payment information. The switch takes up to two months for those without a smart meter and is faster for smart-meter users.
  • Payment Options: Most companies require a credit card.

Note: Monitor and Adjust:

  • It is important to review your bills regularly to ensure that the amounts make sense
  • You can switch between plans, but changes take effect the following month
  • Invoices from alternative providers will be issued monthly instead of bi-monthly.
