THE OLD CITY OF ACRE

Another item from UNESCO’s world Heritage List in Israel is the old city of Acre.

Acre is an ancient city, located in the north west of Israel. It’s been continuously settled since the Phoenician period. This means that it’s thousands of years old.

The current city is a fortified town, dating from the Ottoman Period. However, under this city lies an almost intact Crusaders Town (dating from between 1104 – 1291). During the time of the crusaders, Acre was the capital of their Medieval Kingdom of Jerusalem.

Today, you’ll find in Acre remnants of the past millennia. Next to Ottoman bathhouses you can find entries to old crusader tunnels that run under the city.

So come, make Aliyah and live in the land filled with history and write new history!
